This weeks Inspired By… guest planned their escape from corporate for six years! It’s Kate Griffiths at Squiggly Ink
What I love about Kate’s story is that she went from a corporate creative career to a free standing creative career – something that many people don’t believe they could, or have been told they can’t do.
Starting as an interior designer and project manager for a global manufacturing company for seventeen years. Kate took a six year secondment when the company she worked for agreed a corporate sponsorship with Manchester United F.C. Bravely Kate took the role even though she knew that would lead to her job eventually becoming redundant, because this gave her six years to plan and build her own business for when she could finally leave corporate!
That happened in July 2024, and since then she has been living her dream as a full time mural artist. Although she says she is still very new in the world of self employment she also describes it as “the best decision I ever made!” and not the midlife crisis her family feared! her plan in the short term is to “just going to enjoy the ride and say ‘Yes’ to every opportunity I can”.
Beyond that her goal is to become a well-established and recognized mural artist within the south west. To be the ‘go-to’ artist that people talk about when murals are a topic of conversation.
Her pearl of wisdom really is “you already know a lot more than you think you do! I was lucky enough to come from a corporate background with marketing and sales experience. It helped set me up in my early days as a small business owner, however when I invested in some personal development with a business mentorship, I found myself knowing a lot more than I thought I did. Which wasn’t a waste at all, in fact, it gave me the confidence I needed to believe in myself to make my business thrive”.
