Author Spotlight With EmWigsters Book Blog
This Author Spotlight from July 2024 was with Emily of EmWigstersBookshelf, and was a whole lot of fun. Emily isn’t just an avid reader and teacher, she is also a librarian - I’m so jealous!, who wants to share their love of books with everyone.
I took the opportunity to talk about the funny and cringeworthy fiction collection that I had just released called ‘Friends Like These’.
“Laugh out loud, cringeworthy and occasionally painful stories of friendship.
Have you ever had a frully in your life? Do you find the rules of friendship baffling? Or have you had friends from before you are even born?
Cringe along with these tales about the good, the bad, and the downright ridiculous friendships we make, and escape throughout our lives”
Emily asked me about my inspirations for friends, what drew me to writing, and my process. As well as how I choose a main character, and what my favourite moment was in the book.
I have to say the last story of the collection ‘Hula Girl’ is based on my friendship with a lovely person, who although I don’t get to seem them much is still very much in my heart. She is an amazing person and I have nothing but love for her. As soon as the story was finished, I texted her to say ‘hey you have inspired part of this book as an example of being a great friend’.
During the interview I also talked about opening myself up more in this collection, through delving into female friendship, the ways it works and doesn’t. The ways that I have not understood friendships in my own life, and how I see that now knowing I am neurodiverse, which affects my ability to make and sustain connection.
